Gulf Shores Short-Term Rental Regulations

City Code of Ordinances

The City of Gulf Shores regulates vacation rentals. They defined vacation rentals as any lease, sublease, rental, or other licensing of the use of a dwelling unit by an owner or lessee for any period of fewer than one hundred eighty (180) consecutive days.

Business License Requirements

You must apply for a Rental License in the City of Gulf Shores to operate a vacation rental. You can find more information here.

Building and Housing Standards

The City of Gulf Shores has rules and regulations that specify minimum building, design, maintenance standards, habitability, health, and safety requirements. Tourist and Local Taxes

Vacation rentals are required to pay lodging tax. Lodging Tax total is 13% Corporate Limits, 9.5% Police Jurisdiction

  • 7% - City - Corporate Limits/3.5% - City - Police Jurisdiction
